Overview

Arsenic and Old Lace, is a clever combination of the farcical and the macabre comedy, centers on two elderly sisters who are famous in their Brooklyn neighborhood for their numerous acts of charity. Unfortunately, however, their charity includes poisoning lonely old men who come to their home looking for lodging. The two women are assisted in their crimes by their mentally challenged nephew who believes he is Teddy Roosevelt and who frequently blasts a bugle and yells “charge” as he bounds up the stairs. Matters get complicated when a second nephew, a theater critic, discovers the murders and a third nephew appears after having just escaped from a mental institution. What can go wrong?

Take a visit back to the classic theatrical style presentation of black and white movies. McPherson High School Theatre takes on the challenge of presenting Joseph Kesselring’s Arsenic and Old Lace in ‘LIVING’ black and white by eliminating ALL color from the story. When the bright red curtains open on the Opera House Stage, the audience will be greeted by a set, furniture and props colored in tones of black, white and greys, even the actor’s skin tone. We hope you enjoy the hard and challenging work the students have put into this unique experimental process of live theatre.
