Overview
The MGM film “The Wizard of Oz” premiered at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre on August 15, 1939. This performance, based on Royal Shakespeare Company’s stage adaptation, starring Imelda Staunton as Dorothy, premiered at London’s Barbican Centre on December 17, 1987, featuring Bille Brown, Paul Greenwood, and John Bowe. Jim Carter, known for “Downton Abbey,” played the Cowardly Lion.
